“Lib Dems And Tories Would Cut Spending On Police In Solihull”

24 April 2015

The Institute of Fiscal Studies released today their analysis of Tory, Labour, Lib Dem and SNP plans for spending cuts.

The IFS said that: "The Liberal Democrats are relying on cuts to departmental spending (£12 billion) ... Their plans require real cuts to departmental spending of 9.0% outside of the NHS, education and aid."

The IFS also said that, for the Tories: "Outside of aid, the NHS and education (which have been promised various levels of protection by the Conservatives), other departmental spending look to be facing cuts of 17.9% between 2014–15 and 2018–19."

Howard Allen, the Green general election candidate for Solihull constituency, said:

"This means even more cuts to the police in Solihull."

"West Midlands Police has faced unprecedented cuts since 2010. The force has seen its budget slashed by more than £146 million in the last four years."

"I support restoring police funding, keeping police front desks in Shirley open, and investing in more visible policing."

"We want the police to prevent crime, not just fight crime."
