Tax Dodging Hurts The Poorest In Solihull

22 April 2015

Howard Allen, the Green Party general election candidate for Solihull constituency, wants HMRC to hire more staff and make businesses pay their fair share of tax

Howard Allen said:

"HMRC's very conservative figures say that tax avoidance and evasion is costing us 34 billion pounds. That's 8 ½ times what is lost to benefit fraud."

"How can Lorely Burt and Julian Knight, running on the record of this Tory/Lib Dem government, claim to be serious about collecting tax?"

"The coalition has cut staff at HMRC, and they have allowed HMRC to make deals with big corporations to pay only a fraction of what is due."

"Paying tax is the contribution each of us makes to living in a civilised society."

"It pays for our health service, education, transport infrastructure and much more besides. We need to hire more HMRC inspectors, not less."

"When companies and individuals dodge taxes, the rest of us have to pay more or else go without these essential services. Quite simply, tax-dodging is immoral."
