Greens riding high in polls and hit record membership numbers

21 January 2015

The Green Party are now the third largest party in England and Wales, having seen a big rise in membership. The Green Party overtook both UKIP and the Lib Dems in size last week, and numbers have continued to grow since then. In England and Wales alone, the Party now has around 45,000 members.

The latest poll puts the Green Party at a 20-year high on 9%, just 2% behind UKIP and the Lib Dems, both of whom are seeing support falling. Meanwhile, pressure to include the Greens in the TV leadership debates is mounting, with Caroline Lucas MP and Green Party Leader Natalie Bennett asking the other parties, "What are you afraid of boys?"
