The Green Party gained 3 new seats and held the seat of former Lib Dem, Councillor Andy Hodgson, in Shirley South against the Conservatives - the first time the Greens have won four seats at one election in Solihull. The Green Party also came second across Solihull Borough in terms of the overall number of votes.
The Council make up is now:
Conservative 29 (+1)
Green Party 10 (+3)
Lib Dems 8 (-1)
Labour 2 (-4)
Independent Ratepayer 1 (=)
UKIP 1 (+1)
Stephen Holt and James Burn gained the Smith's Wood and Chelmsley Wood seats from Labour, while Tim Hodgson gained the Shirley West seat from Labour and Andy Hodgson held his Shirley South seat against a strong Conservative campaign.
This is the first time in the history of Solihull Council that the Green Party has been the main opposition party on the Council.
Councillor Chris Williams (Green, Chelmsley Wood) said "As Solihull's residents have elected us to be the main opposition, our job is to hold the Conservative Council to account. Our ear is always to the ground and we will be working harder than ever to make sure the people's voice is heard loud and clear inside the Council Chamber".
