Meriden MP Candidate Announced

8 February 2010

Elly Stanton has been named as the Green Party's General Election Candidate for Meriden constituency.  Elly Stanton

Dr Stanton said: "I am really looking forward to getting stuck in with the Party's good work in Meriden. I particularly want to ensure that North Solihull gets its fair share of attention and make sure that the regeneration process is carried out with greater consultation with the community.

The Green Party has polled extremely well in the Meriden constituency in recent years, electing the Green Party's first Councillor, Mike Sheridan, with a large majority at the last local elections. We expect to build on this at the 2010 local and General elections."

Dr Stanton is a General Practitioner in Birmingham, although she initially trained at the Craig Croft Medical Centre in Chelmsley Wood. Close to Dr Stanton's heart are protecting the NHS and ensuring children get the best start in life with a good education.

At the last local elections, the Green Party gained the seat of Smith's Wood from then Leader of the Labour group. This puts the Party on level pegging with the Liberal Democrats who also hold one seat in the constituency.
